The Reading Intervention program is funded through Title 1A funds. Because of this there are specific requirements we must align our program to reflect.
The students selected for services must show a need for additional reading help. Our district uses at least three data types to determine need. Those same points are monitored throughout the year to determine student progress.
The programs we use for instruction are research-based instructional methods. The two primary means of instruction utilized are Pathways to Reading and Leveled Literacy Intervention by Fountas and Pinnell. Pathways is a systematic, sequential phonetic program used with beginning readers. Leveled Literacy Intervention is a contextual reading program designed to help transitional readers by focusing heavily on comprehension and fluency.
Parent involvement is crucial to the success of students. I have several prearranged times to meet with parents: fall parent/teacher conferences, spring conferences, and at the end of the year. I also encourage individual conferences at the end of the first semester (right before winter break), and in May. I am happy to meet with you to discuss your child's progress or ideas you can try at home at any time. To request a conference click here.
Each year we ask that parents complete a survey to help guide the development of the program for the following year. The survey will be made available to parents at the end of the school year. Your opinion matters to us!
