Welcome to the Timber Creek Reading Intervention web page.
This page is to designed to be a resource for parents as you help your children develop an understanding of and love for reading.
I am often asked, "What can I do to help my child?" Answering that question is the purpose of this web page.
Whether your child is at a pre-reading, early reading, or more advanced stage of reading, there are tips and activities under the "Parent Information" tab to the left to address specific skills. You should be engaging your child in literacy activities every night for 10-30 minutes. If you would like help deciding which activities would be best suited to your child's needs, the classroom teacher or I would be happy to discuss this with you.
Once your child has a grasp of the basics of how words work, the single most powerful thing you can do to help your child is to have them read to you. They need to be reading to you every night for 10-30 minutes. Reading is the key to becoming a better reader - there are no shortcuts or magic formulas - they need to practice reading if they want to improve. There are suggestions for helping with multisyllable words, comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary under the "Parent Information" tab. I would be happy to help you find books that may be of interest and written at an appropriate level for you child.
Please use the contact form to suggest ideas for additional information you would find helpful or to bring to my attention any questions or concerns you may have. I will get back to you as quickly as I can.
